How to actually switch off, unwind and rejuvenate in the holidays
The holidays come rushing in, don’t they? One minute you’re wrapping up work, ticking off lists, and juggling plans. The next, you’re supposed to magically relax. But switching off—really switching off—is an art.
First, let yourself pause. Truly pause.
That means more than just sitting down. It’s a conscious moment of stopping the busyness in your mind. Breathe deeply. Listen to the quiet—or the not-so-quiet—around you.
Give yourself permission to simply be.
Let go of the pressure to make the holidays perfect.
The table doesn’t have to look like a magazine spread, and not every gift needs to be wrapped in Pinterest-worthy paper. Perfection isn’t what we remember years down the track.
It’s the laughter, the warmth, and the moments of real connection that linger.
Spend time doing the things that make your soul exhale.
Maybe that’s reading a book, lying under the stars, or taking long walks by the beach. Maybe it’s sleeping in without guilt. Honour what feels good to you, even if it doesn’t look “productive.”
Be present. This is a big one.
We’re so used to multitasking that even when we’re resting, our minds are elsewhere. Notice the sound of waves, the scent of pine, or the sparkle of fairy lights. Be where your feet are.
Remember, it’s okay to say no.
The world will keep turning if you miss a party or skip a social obligation.
Protect your peace.
The people who love you will understand.
And above all, be kind to yourself.
Sometimes slowing down isn’t easy. If you catch yourself fretting or scrolling mindlessly, that’s okay. Gently redirect. Rest is a practice, not a perfect science.
This season, may you find joy not just in what you do, but in what you let go of.
May your days be slow, your heart full, and your mind at ease.
Wishing you a holiday that nourishes you in every way.
Take care of yourself—you deserve it.
